If you are reading this post and are still active in real estate, congratulations! You have survived a year of many challenges.  You can pat yourself on the back remember how hard your worked.  Feel a sense of accomplishment and embrace every challenge that was put in front of you.

We faced many challenges.  We had good times and bad times. From all of it, I hoped you’ve learned something!

Now, let’s look ahead. Here are some things you should be doing in 2011:

Send out quarterly/yearly market updates to your clients.  Market updates allow you to share accurate information based on factual data within your local area. I do this in an e-mail to my clients.  Thank goodness for 10K Marketing’s “The Thing.” It’s one of my favorite tools to use to share local real estate information with clients.

If you read an article or hear a news story, share and comment on it.  Post on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog.  Use your expertise to expand or argue the story. It’s also a great way to combat negative media attention.

Share your own success stories. I came across a blog that had pictures of their clients in front of their new home they just closed on. I thought it was a pretty neat idea. Continue reading »

LinkedIn- www.LinkedIn.com: This is one social media tool that I recommend for all real estate agents.  LinkedIn is your Web 2010 resume.  When consumers Google your name – and they are Googling your name – you want your LinkedIn profile to show up in the results.

What is LinkedIn?  In a nutshell, it’s your online resume, complete with recommendations.  Spend some time setting up your LinkedIn profile and really building out your information, start connecting with your sphere of influence: former colleagues, classmates, group members, vendors, and your past clients; then work on scoring a few solid recommendations.

If you are new to social networking, LinkedIn is a nice smooth way to slide into the hot tub.  You have to put the work into your profile initially and then spend some time reaching out to your connections, but after that, LinkedIn can become pretty passive.  You can easily manage your profile and connections in just five minutes a day.

There are a few questions/concerns that I seem to get over and over again with regard to LinkedIn that I am addressing specifically in this post. Continue reading »

I’m the 21st century REALTOR®, so let me tell you more.

I’m digitally enhanced, slightly cropped, I’m fine tuned and on iTunes downloading a new ring tone for my iPhone.

I’m camera ready, custom made, plugged-in and ready to rate, constantly updating my status update.

I e-mail, I e-commerce, I e-trade, but my life is still far from easy. I text early and e-mail late, but I always Pay-Pal on time.

I have too many user-names, passwords, and trick questions.

I said goodbye to MapQuest, but put me to the test because I’m now on GPS.

I grew up with a Rubik’s Cube, but now I have my own channel on YouTube.

I got rid of MySpace because it’s not my look, but my life is no longer my business, I’m keeping you updated on Facebook.

I’m not lame, I like to do things, so I don’t watch HGTV, FLN, TLC or DIY, but I do have HDTV and I always rent “On Demand.”

I work late, I social network, I’m connected to a Wi-Fi network, I don’t have time for network TV, but love watching TV sitcoms on my DVR.

I’m too young to be in bed by ten, but too old for AOL IM.

I have no need for CDs, I’m 100 percent MP3s.

We might have a lot in common and maybe we should meet, follow me on Twitter and read my latest tweet.

The real estate boom is done, so relax and take a run, I’m making the best, I’m clearly having fun.

Well friends give me a call or write on my wall, but for now I must go – I’m the 21st century REALTOR®, now you know!

ypn_friedman_darrinIf the first step is admitting I have a problem then I have a problem.  Now what?

I’m on vacation this week; you know what vacation is, right?  It’s that cultural ritual that says thou shall not work, giving your mind that required time off so it can relax into a zen like state and give you the necessary recharge so we can again work like the obsessed maniacs we have all become.

The problem is I have yet to stop returning e-mails let alone turn off my iPhone, and as you can see now, this blog is being written on my MacBook.

I have issues!

It would seem I am incapable of getting unplugged.  So, I ask you, my YPN family, no I plead:  Help ME! I need an intervention and I need it now.

I await your response.
